This talk explores arguments which can be put forward for the historical reliability of the Old Testament, in particular by seeking to remember what was not externally confirmed before archaeology began and what has subsequently been externally confirmed, and considering what this means about the trust exercised by previous generations as well as the trust that we need today. Various well known and lesser known archaeological discoveries are considered, as well as the potential of onomastic studies to play a part in an apologetic today.
