When I was 16, I joined my local Pentecostal church and was baptised there. I found my way through the Christian Boy Scouts in my town, where some great people led me to Jesus through their youth ministry. I made my first decision with Jesus at one of their camps. With friends, I was invited to a group that aimed to equip us with our discipleship and to start groups on our own afterward. This was an excellent key for my journey with Jesus. Through great community, getting mentored, and serving others, I learned to follow Jesus more and more. Inspiring people around me who wanted to follow Jesus was crucial to my growth towards him.
I like to be in touch with other leaders working in youth ministry. Sharing what we do in our ministries was a significant benefit of ELF, and I hope to continue this with YRM. I expect to gain insights into leading a youth ministry from more experienced leaders, get biblical foundations on leadership, and develop leadership skills throughout the YRM sessions. In this process, I want to be inspired and strengthened by others and Jesus. I hope to get some fresh ideas from other youth ministry leaders. I expect to understand better how to do good youth ministry.
For about ten years, I was involved in our local "Royal Ranger" ministry (Christian Boy Scouts for 3-18 year olds). Two years ago, I started my work in our local youth ministry. Primarily, I'm responsible for the sermons at our meetings on Friday. I built a group of 5 people to preach and prepare the sermons for our Friday evenings. Besides that, I'm leading a discipleship group of young people. We meet every two weeks on Wednesday. Most of the time, we have prayer together at the start or live active spirituality. Afterward, we read the Bible and discuss what we can learn from the text passages.
In my church, I am leading the "Next Generation" area. It includes our youth ministry and several other ministries for children and young adults. In our youth ministry, I'm one of two prominent leaders. Together, we are leading a smaller group of six people, primarily leading the ministry, and a greater circle of leaders (about twelve) with responsibilities like Worship, Snacks, and Outreach. As the leader of the whole Next Generation area, I'm mentoring and helping the leaders of our other ministry: Christian Boy Scouts, gatherings for young adults, and kids ministry for our Sunday celebrations.
