Ruth Getachew
Ruth Getachew is a student in Germany.
I was born into a family of believers. At 16, I faced a challenging period during high school, leading to isolation from my friends and a sense of despair. During that difficult time, I found comfort in prayer. One night, I prayed, ‘I am done. I gave up on my life, and now I will live for you’. Since then, God's hand has been carrying me.
I attended discipleship programs, devoted my life to Christ, and got baptised. Since then, I've seen God lead me through mountains and valleys. I've seen His hand in my academic life, guiding me through it all. I completed my undergraduate studies at a highly esteemed university in Ethiopia, and now I am on the verge of completing my master's degree here in Germany. Reflecting on every decision, from choosing my field of study to acquiring opportunities, I am reminded of the profound impact of surrendering my life to Christ at 16. Every day, God teaches shapes, and prepares the way for me, revealing the greater purpose of my journey.
Given my career path toward the intersection of politics and humanitarian work, I am confident delving into subjects such as Al, liberal theology, gender conversation, diverse religious discussions, cultural intelligence, humanity, the Gospel in Europe, and revelation discourse. In addition to my ministry on youth, the program will provide me with unique tools for the involvement of young leaders within the church and spiritual community, which will be particularly beneficial.
I currently serve with the International Student Fellowship at my church, where I manage social media, coordinate Bible studies, and help organise various events. These include activities like book clubs, movie screenings, and other fellowship-building opportunities that support the students' needs and interests. My role allows me to engage with both the spiritual and social aspects of our community.
I was a youth leader, assisting the youth pastor for a year until Covid disrupted our plans. This experience significantly impacted my senior year of high school, as I went from a solitary role to contributing actively to the graduating committee and organising various events throughout the academic year. This gave me invaluable leadership skills and instilled a profound sense of responsibility as I led the graduating team through memorable milestones.
Investing in me means investing in what God has called me to do. I am a Christian who grew up in Ethiopia and aspired to be in the decision-making rooms of Europe, in places like the headquarters of the United Nations, where being a Christian can be challenging. This program will equip me with solid answers that can withstand scrutiny and help me build a firm foundation. God's will shall be done, and I am confident that investing in me means investing in His work in my life by providing me with the necessary tools to navigate challenges with the Lord by my side.
