Roger Marshall
I accepted Christ as a child, largely thanks to the influence, consistent witness, and love of my parents.
I will learn more about how to apply scripture deeply and effectively to my own life and to that of other men. I'm excited about how relevant and incisive Scripture is, but I'm concerned about how little importance is given to it.
At the moment, it’s a low-scale discipleship and apologetics-related evangelism. But I don't occupy a leadership post in the church. I would like to be more effectively involved in teaching and evangelism, not from a pulpit but in small to medium-sized groups. I am also involved as one of the leaders of an apologetics ministry, along with a friend who is pursuing doctoral studies in Philosophy. There is a small team of us and the number of people participating in the sessions is still small, at the moment. The group is called Diálogos, and the purpose is to bring people together, Christian and non-Christian, with different perspectives on life, to discuss issues about which the Bible has important things to say.
I run English conversation workshops with native and non-native speakers of English. This offers opportunities to build friendships through meaningful conversation. In the same space, a group of us organise a fortnightly "dialogue" consisting of a Christian philosopher giving a short talk about subjects like: "Does science have the answers to all the questions we need to ask?", "The challenge of AI," "The origin of moral evil." Then follows an open conversation with an opportunity to pose questions and discuss possible answers. We also have a webpage where the conversations can continue. We have just started this project very recently, and our challenge is to bring more non-Christians from the local community into the conversations. The space is available for other initiatives we haven't begun developing yet. I am also involved in ongoing conversations with former students and colleagues.
I would like to develop Bible study material that will address real needs, show a good understanding of the cultural/philosophical/ ideological contexts in which people live and face challenges from day to day, and help them to see how Scripture points them towards answers to the questions they might be asking.
