Rodica Mocan

I am a senior lecturer and the Head of Cinematography and the Media Department at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. My education includes an Engineering degree, an M.A. in Art from Mississippi College, and a Ph.D. in e-learning. It results from a continuing interest in lifelong learning in an interdisciplinary context. My interest is in studying the effects of media use and digital technologies on everyday life, which has led me into new learning contexts like formation in psychotherapy, management of public policies, and a recent Ph.D. in multimedia in performing arts. I have written the book A Sociological Perspective on eLearning and Happiness and The Family 2.0 Paradigm.
I decided to receive Christ in 1980 when I was 18-years-old. Despite the discrimination I knew that I would face living under Communist rule, I realized that life without Him has no surpassing purpose.
I have felt God’s hand leading me throughout my life. He gave me the privilege of meeting many wonderful people, including Jerram Barrs and Edith Schaeffer during at a retreat in Slovakia in 1991. Christians such as Jerram and Edith have changed my life and my way of thinking as a believer. My husband, Liviu, and I have organized many events and have been able to share our faith through our professions.
Being at the Forum is a wonderful experience, and it has encouraged me greatly. It is incredible to see what other Christians worldwide are doing and develop friendships with them. Through the Forum, my husband and I have developed a network to draw encouragement and glean new insights for our ministry. I met people who have a similar approach and similar interests. We were able to interact and discuss models and strategies.
I previously led the Center for New Media and E-Learning, an organization that develops media products. I have been a speaker at women’s conferences and a translator. In addition, I have been involved in various youth programs and have served as President of the Cluj affiliate of Habitat for Humanity.
I firmly believe that family, profession, and walk with God are interwoven in the personal life story. Thus, as a mother of three, a Christian, and an academic teaching new media-related disciplines, I strongly believe in the power of mentoring the new generation to harness the great potential of new technologies to understand better the times we live in.
