Robert Lemperger
Robert Lemperger is an elder and the director of a publishing company in Hungary.
I grew up in a Christian family and decided to follow Jesus when I was 17 after realising I was lost and owed my life to my Redeemer. While attending secondary school, I read the Bible, but my heart was half in the world. After watching the lives of servants of the Lord, I realised Christianity is about knowledge and a real connection to the Lord. To establish and uphold the relationship, I needed to accept the grace of God because I was lost.
Two writers have also had a significant impact on my faith. The books of Lawrence Crab have shown me the significance of relationships, especially my relationship with God and how sinful human nature truly is. Through the books of C. S. Lewis, I have gained a deeper insight into the human soul and the work of God. Other crucial moments of my Christian life have been when God taught me to rely solely on Him: for example, when my wife and I lost our jobs simultaneously.
The Forum has helped my ministry in several different ways. It equipped me with knowledge and allowed me to meet other ministry leaders. In the publishing ministry, I constantly need to meet leaders and authors who are leading thinkers of the evangelical community. At the Forum, I can meet authors and publishers, and I gain information on new books.
I am the Director of the Hungarian Evangelical Publisher and Literature Mission, a non-profit publishing organisation. We aim to publish Gospel-centred and Bible-based content that will serve the Church. We publish 20-25 books per year. I am also the editor of our evangelical magazine and write articles.
In addition to this work, I am an elder of the Brethren church in Eger, where I preach and teach. We put a lot of effort into reaching lost people in our city. Evangelical believers are less than 1% of the population in Hungary.
I was the leader of a Hungarian youth mission that organises youth camps mainly for teenagers from Christian and non-Christian backgrounds. I was also a member of the leadership team for the Hungarian Fellowship of Evangelical Students.
I could widely utilise the training and networking possibilities the Forum provides for my ministry, especially in evangelical book and magazine publishing. Through my job at the publishing house, I serve evangelical believers, and we also serve non-believers with evangelism literature. As a mission, we provide many books and tracts free for evangelism. In addition, I write articles for our free magazine, with tens of thousands of copies published.
