Mark Abrman
Locally, I lead a team that organises youth groups, camps, small groups, and other youth events. I mentor and disciple young leaders and lead the church by preaching and shepherding. Nationally, I am a part of a team that leads a project called the School of Leaders, a one-year course for youth leaders from all over Slovakia where we train and teach youth leaders to be more effective leaders in their local churches. Internationally, I teach and preach at different churches, youth groups, camps, and conferences.
I grew up in a Christian family. My dad was, and still is, a missionary and a pastor. My parents taught me about Jesus from as far back as I can remember. I accepted God's gift of salvation through Jesus Christ when I was six.
I gave my life to Jesus at six, but I rededicated my life to God at age 13. At that time, I started actually to read my Bible and pray. I made this recommitment at a youth camp after I heard a sermon about how God wants to use us and be the Lord of our lives. I knew that God had saved me but that He wasn't my Lord. I realized that if I wanted to be used by Him, I needed to let Him use me and be in control of my life. After I graduated high school, I went to the Word of Life Bible Institute in Hungary, planning to get my degree in economics after two years of study. God changed my heart, though, and during my studies there, I felt His calling to full-time ministry. Since then, I had been commissioned into the ministry, ordained, and have become the youth pastor at my local church in the city where I live. Throughout the years, I have had people who have influenced me and helped me make the right decisions, including my parents, leaders in the church, teachers, and mentors.
It is a privilege and honour to attend the European Leadership Forum. I want to learn more and grow my knowledge, skills, and abilities. I want to meet people and build relationships. I want to buy books. And finally, I want to serve with what God has given me. I have been invited to co-lead the Youth Ministry Leaders Network this year.
My first leadership role involved leading small groups at camps when I was a teenager. I was a counsellor and the counsellors' leader at various Slovakia and Czech Republic camps. I later became the director of summer camps at our church. Starting in my second year in college, I would lead one or more young men in their walks with Christ as a mentor, encouraging and challenging them. Sometimes, I would lead small groups as well. I taught there before becoming the Academic Coordinator for the leader's school.
I am eager to learn. I am young, and the sooner I learn, the sooner I implement this knowledge in my ministry. Due to my work with youth, I have a sphere of influence with hundreds of people in Slovakia and other central European countries.
