Jakob Ostanek
I am currently serving as a worship leader in my local church. I also work with a student outreach group, preparing study groups and camps. I help with recording Slovenian Christian worship music.
As a kid, I grew up in a Roman Catholic family of four. I have always somehow believed God does exist. I was part of Catholic Sunday school but never really engaged with the Bible. I didn’t want to believe it, and I refused to believe in God. It was a time when I was in a dark place regarding my self-image, and my relationships in school were not the best either. As I finished my final year of high school, I was invited to attend a Christian outreach camp called “English camp,” organised by a local evangelical church in Ljubljana, Slovenia. During this camp, I was pleasantly surprised to meet a group of Christian people around my age, and through our interactions, I was able to develop strong friendships with them. As a result of these newfound friendships, I was inspired to start attending church and learn more about the Christian faith. As I read His Word, the Lord, in His kindness, was patient with me and opened my eyes through these first years of college so that I have come to know the magnificent greatness of Christ and the salvation He provided. I know today that my life, my friendship with the Lord, and the knowledge of Him were all given to me by the Heavenly Father because of His goodwill towards me. I praise and honour Him for that.
At first, it was just being exposed to a group of Christians at an English camp who helped me see Christianity in a different light than what I believed it to be growing up as a Roman Catholic. After I started attending church, reading the Bible for myself helped me see my sin and the cure that the Lord provided.
I have built connections, been encouraged to press on in my ministry, received multiple valuable resources, and connected with other Slovene Christian leaders.
I have served as a youth leader, organised outreach camps, served as an instrumentalist and sound engineer on worship teams, served as a sound tech at multiple Christian conferences, and helped with studio recordings of Christian worship music.
I desire to serve the Lord in this area. I would love to equip others to do the same since writing/translating, producing, and recording biblically sound worship music has only recently started in Slovenian evangelical circles. I would love to help create a good foundation for future worship leaders, songwriters, artists, etc.
