I lead the events and training initiatives for Christian healthcare workers (particularly doctors) in the UK, to unite and equip them to live and speak for Jesus Christ. This includes running flagship annual residential conferences and overseeing specialty and local day conferences. It also includes leading national and local training initiatives. I also have a vision to build up today's generation of Christian doctors to change tomorrow's healthcare and society for Christ and am working with and training junior doctors for the future.
I grew up as a nominal Christian but became a born-again Christian when I attended Christian Union at medical school in 1990. God brought me to new resurrection life when I realised that we are saved by faith and not by works.
I have been blessed in attending faithful Bible-teaching churches and am trained in teaching the Bible in small groups and one-to-one discipleship. I have trained further at the Cornhill Training Course in London. I continue to be refined and grow in my job at Christian Medical Fellowship which unites and equips Christian doctors to live and speak for Jesus Christ. The Lord has used many trials and difficult relationships in my life to refine and grow my faith and to see His goodness and faithfulness.
At the Forum, I gain a bigger perspective of how God is working and what he is doing through people and organisations across Europe. I also enjoy connecting with, learning from, and encouraging and being encouraged by others in this kingdom work.
I am the head of Doctors' Ministries at Christian Medical Fellowship UK. CMF is here to unite and equip Christian doctors and nurses to live and speak for Jesus Christ.
My role involves managing a team of 2 staff and several volunteers, visiting doctor members across the UK, setting the vision, strategy, and direction of my department, giving talks and seminars, organising events (conferences), overseeing programmes (e.g., pastoral care, justice training track), writing blogs.
I am also part of the senior 'department heads' team, where we meet to discuss the whole organization's direction and strategy, including setting budgets and priorities.
I find my role in both teams challenging for different reasons - my team as a leader and the senior team to have my voice heard and valued. I am also a GP and often have to lead others in this role.
Christian Medical Fellowship is the only significant Christian ministry in the UK amongst Christians in healthcare. Christian doctors are leaders in society who can stand up and speak out for Jesus in a way that others cannot - they have a natural voice in healthcare and society. Our culture is increasingly hostile and Godless and we need doctors to be those voices for Jesus speaking into the changes.
