Erno Veres is a Baptist pastor serving Hungarian-speaking people in Romania.

When did you trust Christ?

At age 16, God spoke to me and convicted me that I needed Christ's forgiveness. After confessing my sins and surrendering my life to Jesus, I felt joy and happiness, knowing I had eternal life and was saved by faith through God's grace.

What have been the defining moments of your Christian walk?

Attending Capernwray Bible School in England at age 19 and studying to become a pastor at the Baptist Theological Seminary of Budapest were instrumental. My seminary teachers helped me grow and mature in faith. My father, who endured communism and was persecuted for his faith, was also a great example.

What do you hope to gain from participating?

My fellow pastors who attended the Forum told me how excited they were about the programmes, so I decided to try it. I believe it will help me better understand our society and the church's ministry. Getting to know others, listening to them, and making friends will broaden my vision, help me see things I need to change, and encourage me to do more for Christ.

What is your ministry?

I serve the Hungarian Baptist Church of Borla and pastor four churches in Romania, the largest with 140 members. I teach and preach God's Word among the Hungarian-speaking people in Romania and train lay people in ministry at a Bible school.

What is your leadership role or what were your past leadership roles?

I have served as a Baptist pastor for 28 years, taught at Bible schools for 20 years, and have been a director of a regional Bible school in Salaj County for nine years. I also teach at our Baptist Theological Seminary and am the Vice President for Education in the Hungarian Baptist Convention.

Why should someone invest in your ministry?

Teaching and making friends with whom I can discuss our problems is important to my ministry. To motivate those I teach to learn about and serve God, I need to train myself continuously. Having a clear vision, sound doctrine, and a strong commitment will help me teach and inspire others to follow my example.
