Efraim Smits
I recently graduated with a degree in theology and have served as the senior pastor of the Latvian congregation of the Salvation Temple in Riga since February 2023. Our church is expanding its reach by establishing a film/audio studio dedicated to producing genuine and compelling content for the Baltics. We have rejuvenated our Bible studies and prayer ministries to strengthen our spiritual connection. Every Sunday, our congregation runs a soup kitchen, extending our hands to the less fortunate in Riga, providing meals for approximately 40 individuals weekly.
I was born in Canada in a Christian home. My father was a pastor and a missionary to Latvia, and he taught me about Jesus and His life. As I grew up, I was fortunate to attend a predominantly missionary kid (MK) boarding school in Germany, where they offered theology classes that furthered this knowledge. After graduating from my studies, returning to Latvia, and serving in a youth group, I began to appreciate the distinction between knowing Christ and genuinely having a relationship with Him. As this understanding grew, I accepted Christ into my life and was baptised.
I grew up in a pastor’s family and attended a missionary boarding school where I discovered my love for music and film. This led me to make career choices that ultimately took me to Asia, where I pursued producing films at a commercial level and building a few companies. While this was financially rewarding, I always noticed something significant missing. The realisation grew, especially in recent years, that I should embrace my most profound passion of being used as a vessel to do God’s work in others’ lives. This has set me on the course of deliberately searching for opportunities where I can be that vessel.
I want to network, find prayer supporters, receive mentoring, gain leadership training, and participate in learning.
From 2013-2019, I was an Executive Producer at CONTRAProductions China, Beijing. From 2019-2020, I was the Managing Director at CHAO HANOI Magazine, Hanoi, Vietnam. From 2020-2022, I set up www.thecarrolfoundation.com and all related ministries. In August 2022, I designed a mission itinerary for eight people from abroad to visit Latvia. In October 2022, I was invited to be the pastor of Salvation Temple Church in Riga for the Latvian-speaking congregation.
In brief, I believe God is doing something extraordinary in the Baltic States, and I am fully on board. I have laid down my past life and dedicated it to the Lord.
