What is your ministry?

I am the founder and chair of Arise Asia, which recently convened 1,800 young people from 37 countries in Asia and the MENA region for world missions. Arise Asia is a mission movement challenging young people to 'go to where there is no gospel.' We are planning the next steps in missions among Gen Z and millennials in Latin America and Arise Global.

When did you trust Christ?

I gave my life to Christ when I was five (1971) and rededicated my life to world missions during my Junior year at Wheaton College in 1989.

What have been the defining moments of your Christian walk?

At the Urbana in 1987 and 1990, I dedicated my life to being a missionary in China. After arriving in Beijing in 2003, our family decided to stay during SARS, and as a result, our ministry to reach the future leaders of China began to grow and flourish. We were able to be part of a rising urban intellectual movement of house churches in Beijing. From my connections with the top house church leaders in China, I brought these leaders together for global missions. Now, I'm continuing this with young people in Asia.

What do you hope to gain from participating?

Lindsay Brown has recommended me to attend to connect with the European leaders. This will be an opportunity to share the new mission momentum from Asia with Mission China and Arise Asia.

What is your leadership role or what were your past leadership roles?

I was the Director of the Christy Wilson Center for World Missions at Gordon-Conwell, Regional Director of the Lausanne Movement, East Asia Chair of Asia 2020-2022 Congress, and the Chair of Arise Asia.

Why should someone invest in your ministry?

A new mission movement is on the horizon coming from the East. Asia missions movement is on the rise with China at the forefront. The history of missions in the last 250 years started with the Western missionary movement to the Majority World in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The Asian church has arisen and is mature enough to take the baton of missions to where there is no gospel.
