New Atheism ran out of steam because of its inability to answer the questions of meaning and purpose. Europeans are increasingly happy to describe themselves as “spiritual” and to say things like “the universe told me” or “the universe wants me to do this”. These ideas can be framed as pan-psychism (the belief that everything is conscious) or as panentheism (the belief that God is in everything). Contemporary intellectual inspiration for these ideas is offered by Iain McGilchrist, Philip Goff, Thomas Nagel, and others. This workshop will explore their ideas and consider how Christians can understand this movement and more effectively communicate the Gospel.
