Dominik Kurowski
Currently, I serve as the elder in a local church, leader of the worship band, leader of the discipleship group, and occasionally a project leader. As an elder, I'm primarily responsible for the spiritual care of people, encouraging others, and sometimes teaching. We have an elder meeting every two weeks to discuss ministry issues and strategic subjects. As the worship leader, I'm responsible for teaching through music and the spiritual care of band members.
I was 16 years old, and I was at a Christian Conference. After one of the sermons, I realised that God and Christianity were only an addition to my life. I realised that to become a Christian; I must submit my life wholly to Jesus regardless of the cost. Afterwards, I started to read the Bible, spend more time on prayer, and started my service in a local church.
At my first local church, I had many great examples. First, my pastor was a great evangelist from whom I learned how to share the gospel. Second, elders who ran open houses and many other persons, such as my parents, were active in service. When I moved to Poznań to start my studies, I joined a local church, but at the same time, together with friends, we launched Sunday services for students. We learned from the Scripture, more experienced Christians, and each other how to organise church life, care for people, etc. After several years, the Christian group has become a fully functioning church, and I became one of the elders.
In my current ministry, I regularly have spiritual conversations with church members who struggle with difficult life situations, faith crises, or just relational situations within the church. As the Elder and Disciple Group Leader, I would like to serve them better, and that's why I would like to return to ELF.
I am an elder and leader of the worship band, and I was the church's treasurer for five years. I was a leader of discipleship groups for nine years. In addition, I was a project leader in the church's relocation. I have organised several evangelistic concerts and was the worship band leader during the biggest Baptist student conference in Poland, the Refresh Festival.
From the beginning of my Christian walk, I wanted to follow Jesus' example of a good servant. With more experience came roles with more responsibility. For instance, I'm the elder and worship leader in Poznań's rapidly growing Baptist church. We've never wanted to be just a big organisation. Instead, we tried to obey God, stick to the Scriptures, and make disciples in Poznań and everywhere; all church members are in discipleship groups. Being an elder is a beautiful ministry but also a huge responsibility. I want to learn to become a useful tool in God's hands.
