Mhairi Hamilton
Mhairi Hamilton serves as Deputy Director of the worldwide Lawyers' Christian Fellowship in England and as the organisation's Director for International Ministries, planning conferences and events.
I grew up in a home where we attended church sporadically, but there was no discussion of a personal relationship with Jesus. At university, I roomed with several other Christian students. One of them, also studying law, encouraged me to come to church with her. I attended a young-adults evening with her and was struck by the gathering of around 100 young people, all passionate about Jesus. I was invited to attend an Alpha course and, coming to fully understand the Gospel message of salvation, I committed my life to Jesus.
Even as a child, I had a strong sense of justice and compassion for the vulnerable. Following Christ and reading my Bible sparked a desire to use my legal skills to serve the wider Kingdom of God. In the United States, I was mentored by an InterVarsity team worker, which led me to spend a year serving with an international faith-based human rights charity in the USA and India. I never fully returned to my legal career, as other opportunities caused me to deviate from my original path, but I gained a deeper understanding of God and learned the value of waiting on and trusting in Him. Also, there have been some deep personal challenges in my life by which the Lord is working in and through me to bring understanding, forgiveness, and healing, allowing me to pray for and encourage those who have had similar experiences.
I would like to learn skills and techniques to more effectively plan and deliver impactful and God-honouring conferences and events that will encourage participants in their walk with Jesus and equip them to faithfully serve God, wherever He has placed them. I would like to be a better steward of my time and resources, and hope to build meaningful connections, learning from and being encouraged by others. I also hope to grow in faith and insight.
I serve with the Lawyers’ Christian Fellowship (LCF) in the UK as Deputy Director and the Director for International Ministries. The LCF seeks to equip and encourage Christian law students and lawyers to be faithful witnesses for Christ. I primarily serve those in the UK, but also across the world. I help build financial and capacity support for access to justice ministries across East Africa, facilitate prayer and fellowship sessions, set up prayer network groups across Europe, lead short-term mission teams, and connect our UK membership with Christians globally. I provide mentorship for colleagues and members and take a lead on safeguarding and first aid. I will be leading a team of volunteers in planning a three-day European conference for Christians in law, to be held next fall.
I have been actively serving with the Lawyers' Christian Fellowship. One aspect of my ministry was helping to successfully plan two other European law conferences, both of which had close to 200 participants.
I would like to become more effective in event and conference planning and delivery, and volunteer coordination, resulting in transformative experiences for delegates. Ultimately, I want to see them grow and thrive in their journey of faith and witness for Christ.
