Mátyás Csányi
Mátyás Csányi works with Hungarian Baptist Aid and preaches in his Hungarian church.
I trusted Christ in 2005 when I was approached by a missionary while working at a university in Colorado. He asked me a question about life after death, and although I had been trying to be saved, I didn't understand the cross. After that meeting, my life changed and is still changing.
I was impacted by hearing the Gospel from my college roommate, visiting the church in Veszprém for the first time with my wife, and attending the Hungarian Evangéliumi Fórum.
Through the Forum, I have become a better preacher and learned a lot. I have wider Christian friendships with other pastors in Hungary. I still have a long way to go in my ministry, and there are many things I can still learn from the Forum. Plus, I am encouraged by everyone there.
I'm one of three leaders in my church. We have different responsibilities, but we are most responsible for preaching, counselling, managing the church, vision casting, rebuking, and encouraging. My responsibility is to look after the church building and manage the men's group. In recent years, I have come to see the importance of expositional preaching, of sharing God's Word with people, and of maintaining the original message and tone of the text.
In 2016, I was asked to join the leadership of my church, and since then, I have become one of three leaders responsible for managing, counselling, preaching, and outreach.
My ambition is to learn from anyone with a greater understanding of God's Word. When my ministry started, it was hard to accept that God would use someone like me. Over the years, my heart changed. Although I have a secular job and didn't want this in the beginning, now I know God chose me and I really want to serve His people.
