What can Evangelists and Missional Leaders learn from Christian engagement with the rise of hip-hop culture? Since its inception, hip-hop culture has become a multi-trillion-dollar industry. The music, the fashion, and the social and political impact of this cultural behemoth have led National Geographic to recognise hip-hop as “the world’s favourite youth culture” in which “just about every country on the planet seems to have developed its own local rap scene.” The global phenomenon that is hip-hop is a mission field which the church has struggled to engage. Let’s consider the lessons learnt and how they might help engage other sub-cultures and marginalised groups.
