What is your ministry?

I serve presently as an elder, concurrently Treasurer of both the church and our school, which is a church ministry. Likewise, I serve as a tentmaker pastor assisting in any way I can with the gifts God has given me. I also assist the Senior Pastor in whatever way he requests. I also lead a small group that meets weekly composed of senior couples. Since the church's inception in 1997, I have served in different capacities, from being a deacon to an elder and pastor, and in the past two years, I have served actively on the Board of Elders.

When did you trust Christ?

In 1986, while living in San Francisco, CA, I reached a point of desperation. My life was on a downward slope as the business I owned and managed went bankrupt. I lived a life in the world and thought that's what life was all about. My cousin invited me to a home bible study; I initially resisted the invitation as it did not appeal to me. I finally agreed to attend, and when I did, I did not regret my decision, for there, I found joy in receiving Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

What do you hope to gain from participating?

My mind is open to the possibilities of whatever gains can be made through my participation in YRM. The elders' approval of our participation indicates our willingness to see how we can benefit from YRM (and ELF) and the possibility of passing it on to other churches and para-church organizations we support and mentor. The recent events in Ukraine have opened our eyes to the need for evangelism in Europe. As a former Elder for Missions, I have been to Nepal three times to work on the ground alongside our supported missionary, and this has allowed me to see firsthand the urgent need for that nation to come to faith in Jesus. YRM could help us grow our church life and lead the church to face the many challenges that await in our country and the world.

What is your leadership role or what were your past leadership roles?

I am currently the Elder in charge of the Growth Group (small group) Ministry. I help the ministry director plan for the Ministry's annual programs. I also serve as the Treasurer of both our church and school after the untimely demise of our former Elder and Treasurer last year. I was thrust into this position. I occasionally preach as assigned by our Senior Pastor, something I enjoy thoroughly and which God has prepared me for even as I am not seminary trained.

Why should someone invest in your ministry?

I would like to see myself grow in knowledge and wisdom in organizing and leading for growth to face the challenges. Our church has been growing steadily in its disciple-making goals, and it has been tremendous seeing God's mighty hand at work during the pandemic and how He grew our online Ministry from zero. Amidst the changing environment, preparing myself to lead the church in the changing times is good. As I see abortion rights being curtailed in the US and the growing permissiveness of LGBTQ rights being advocated, it would be good for me as a leader to prepare for such hitting our shores.
