What is your ministry?
I serve as the Director of a Christian organization called RODINA (Family), which aims to build and run a senior house in a small town near Bratislava. We want to provide quality services for elderly people, both Christians, and non-Christians. We believe that this way, we may demonstrate Christ's love to those we serve and the whole community.
When did you trust Christ?
I decided to follow Christ at a Christian children's camp when I was 13.
What have been the defining moments of your Christian walk?
After becoming a Christian, I spent my teenage years looking for ways to serve God using my gifts and skills. While studying mathematics and management at Comenius University, I also started my theological studies and finished with an M.Th. My theology thesis was on Jesus and His social teaching in the gospels. I was granted the Humphrey Fellow Scholarship and spent a semester at the University of Michigan and in Washington, D.C. After graduating; I started to work for a Christian foundation that helped vulnerable women start and grow their small businesses. This work helped me see the importance of the church's social work.
What do you hope to gain from participating?
I hope I will get encouragement to grow in my leadership role further. I hope to meet inspiring people and hear inspiring stories. It would be great if I could find contacts with people involved in a similar ministry of social care. In addition, I want to find resources to study and improve my leadership skills and spiritual life. I also expect to get some practical leadership tools that I can use even in my non-traditional leadership, where I try to inspire and influence people who are not on the organization's payroll.
What is your leadership role or what were your past leadership roles?
For several years I worked for Integra, a non-profit started by brothers from the Free Church. I was a children's camp leader for a couple of years and a youth group leader in our church. However, leading the senior house is my first "full-time" leadership role.
Why should someone invest in your ministry?
The Baptist Union in Slovakia, of which my organization is a part, is focused on evangelism and spiritual growth. Still, the result is that the social work and practical deeds of love (on an institutional basis) are somewhat neglected. Therefore, I believe that helping me to grow as a leader in our organization may help not only to develop our ministry but that it may trigger other social services that will be initiated within our church to the benefit of many others.
