Our ability to minister is directly impacted by the viability of the organisation we represent. Highly successful ministries have taken time to build infrastructure to support the fulfillment of mission. Our vision for impact will be proportional to how effective we are in building on a firm foundation sufficient to withstand the storms of change. Sessions in this Seminar are designed to provide practical steps, tools, and resources to enable your organisation to grow and flourish.
Each session will be a "working session" with workbooks on how to develop each idea.
Day 1
Mission and Ministry (2 Sessions)
Jerry Twombly
Every organisation needs to have a clear understanding of its reason for existence. This clarity of purpose comes when an organisation understands its mission. Mission drives every aspect of what is done within an organisation; nothing should be considered part of the organisation that doesn’t make critical contribution to the fulfilment of the organisation’s mission.
Day 2
Funding Your Vision (2 Sessions)
Jerry Twombly
Many people think that fundraising is a matter of sales or manipulation. In contrast, Jerry Twombly teaches that a biblical approach to fundraising is the result of building a healthy and biblical God-honouring organisation. What are foundations of a healthy organisation in this perspective?
Day 3
Strategic Planning for Ministries (2 Sessions)
Jerry Twombly
The organisational leader works to set the agenda of the organisation, inspire support for the agenda, and effectively direct others in achieving the vision. This session will discuss the following: three philosophical approaches to planning, reasons why plans typically fail, key areas planning needs to occur and various planning models.
Day 4
Development Plan
Jerry Twombly
The Development Plan is the final component that organisations must address in planning for success. While the effectiveness of a ministry will be determined by how well they achieve their stated mission, motivation will be fueled by a compelling vision, and structure will emerge out of the strategic plan - it will be the development plan that will provide the resources (finances, people and time) to accomplish what God has placed in our hearts to do!
Pre-Forum Seminars
Primer on US Foundation Giving: Principles on How to Approach Major Donors and Foundations
Lee Behar
Raising money. Nobody likes to do it. But as a Christian leader God often calls us to call others to participate in His mission through significant financial gifts or grants. The purpose of this seminar is to help participants understand the basics of major donor/foundation fundraising, especially for those who hope to raise funds in the United States. In this Seminar, participants will create a simple grant application in order to apply the skills learned during their interaction.
The seminar opens with a brief overview of some familiar concepts in scripture related to giving. Next participants will learn the importance of understanding the donors they hope to approach for funding. An “Outcomes Framework” will be offered to demonstrate how strategic planning and fundraising go hand-in-hand. The majority of the interaction will revolve around creating the basics of an effective grant application—vision, plan, budget, outcomes and communication of impact.
At the end of the seminar ample time will be offered for questions, answers and specific guidance for individual ministry leaders related to their major donor/foundation funding strategy.
Lee Behar is Strategy Director of Maclellan Foundation, which he joined in May 2006. His focus for the Foundation is Europe, Eurasia and the US. Of particular interest to the Foundation in these areas are the rapid expansion of the Gospel in Iran, the renaissance of evangelism in Europe, and the response to media and Internet ministry throughout the Eurasian region. Prior to coming to the Foundation, he led the Alliance for Saturation Church Planting, a multi-agency partnership focused on empowering national church planters in Central and Eastern Europe. He has also served as the Associate Director of Global Outreach at Perimeter Church near Atlanta. He holds a BBA in Accounting from TCU and is a CPA. He has written articles for the Christian Management Report, the Evangelical Missions Quarterly and The Gathering. Lee and his wife, Brooke, live in Signal Mountain, Tennessee, with their three children, Mckenna, Knox and Emelyn.
Maximise Your Ministry Impact: How Has Your Ministry Impacted the Culture of Your World?
Jerry Twombly
Success catches most organisations by surprise. Often we stand in awe as changes are realised in the lives of those we serve. But too often these victories are few and far between and separated by long spiritual droughts.
Success should be expected. This Seminar will focus on what your ministry can do to reach out to people where they are and will help you discover how you can be used of God to creatively engage them so that they can become all that God intended them to be.
Workshops
Primer on US Foundation Giving: Principles on How to Approach Major Donors and Foundations
Lee Behar
Are you as a Christian leader struggling with a strategy to raise large gifts from wealthy individuals or foundations? The purpose of this workshop is to provide you with a philosophy for major donor and foundation fundraising. It will provide you insights on how to create a grant application and how to communicate the impact of your ministry to large donors. Ample time will be given for questions and answers, so that you might apply the concepts discussed to your specific situation.
How to Build Your Ministry on a Rock
Jerry Twombly
This workshop focuses on four main practices ministries should consider as they seek to achieve their ministry goals in today’s challenging “new economy”. We will address relational giving, discussing the motivations to give, as well as why donors sustain their support. We will also look at the leading indicators for giving, creating giving charts, and focusing on cultivating ministry relationships. Knowing the changes within today’s economy and how to accommodate them will determine who will succeed and who won't.
Building Confidence with Organisational Supporters
Jerry Twombly
This workshop focuses on the things an organisation should consider as they seek to raise funds in the current worldwide economic crisis. The good news is that people continue to give; the challenge is that the motivation and demands of donors toward those charities they support have changed. Knowing the changes and how to accommodate them will determine who will succeed and who won't. In this session, we will speak to what's different today and the steps organisations must take in order to sustain donor involvement.
